A legend has aptly said, “Music hath charms to soothe a savage beast.”

Music makes one of the most calming things in the world. It is what brings us joy during tough times. Different people have different tastes in music. Some love hard rock music; some prefer pop; while others are fans of rap music. There are quite a few music genres. The spirit of life is found in music, which also brings us immense tranquillity. Shakespeare aptly says, “If music is the aliment of love, play on, give me excess of it, lest my hunger is sickened, and so die.” Music helps us to communicate with our true selves or souls.

The idea of music is unbelievably popular all across the world. Different cultures have different types of music and musical instruments. For instance, Indian classical music primarily features tabla, tanpura and sitar; western music features drums, violin, piano and guitar; and, Korean music comprises of Gayageum and Geomungo. A musical style and musical instruments are an identity of various cultures.

Music is not always created by humans. The Earth also has music for those who listen. Sounds of nature, like the one of waterfall, a river flowing, the chirping of birds, or people talking, are also music in their own way. Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, one of the greatest musicians of all time, once said, “The music is not in the notes, but in the quiet between.”

Music also heals us emotionally and psychologically. Listening to music can help us relieve stress. We tend to forget our troubles, disappointments and sufferings by engaging in music. It treats illnesses llike insomnia, hypertension, and anxiety. But we must develop our individual taste in order to enjoy music wonderfully. Music aids in enhancing focus, which immensely benefits primarily youngsters. Additionally, studies have shown plants flourishing in a musical environment develop more quickly than other plants.

Mythology has it that the Gopis would get enthralled by the melody emanating from Lord Krishna’s flute in the Dwapar Yug. They would thus offer Him their complete devotion. The traditions of Tansen, who is said to have brought rain by singing his Raag Megh Malhar and lighting lamps by his Raag Deepak, attest to the power music carries. Music has been carrying significance in mythology, history and the ancient era.

Well-known music genres include pop, rock, EDM, gospel, country, jazz and rap. In India, Bollywood music is quite popular. Some notable musicians include Beethoven, Mozart, AR Rahman, Lata Mangeshkar and KK.

Music is found in anything that has rhythm. There is a rhythm to how we clap, how birds chirp, how water flows and even to how we breathe. As a result, we may assert that every living being, including the mankind, carries a musical component in some form or the other. People may communicate with a wide range of feelings through music. We might get the conclusion that the purest manner of connecting with our souls is through music.
